Ghost Stories

Touched by a Spirit

Personal Experience by Mary Ann

My story happened in the summer of 1993 when I was 19 years old. I grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and I was always told as a little girl that spirits can't touch you, so when I was touched by one it shattered everything I believed in a moment, and it was very frightening.

I lived with my boyfriend in a 2 story loft apartment, and he worked construction, so he would usually leave the house around 5:00 A.M. I would usually wake up and put a CD on and fall back asleep. I was sleeping on my stomach with my arm around a pillow and sudden I woke up...

I awoke to my boyfriend (or who I thought was my boyfriend) kneeling by the bedside staring at me. I glanced at the clock and it was 8:00 A.M. and I thought to myself "what is he doing home so early?" and thought maybe they got rained out at work. He was staring at me with a very serious look on his face and didn't say anything. I was too tired to say anything, so I just stared back and smiled at him.

Suddenly, he leaned over and touched my arm 3 times as he stood up and walked away. I watched him walk into the corner of a wall and vanish into thin air. I quickly sat up in my bed because I couldn't believe what I just saw, and then I felt my arm start to tingle from where he touched me.

The tingling sensation started to move up my arm and through my whole body. It felt like pin needles, or when your leg falls asleep and it starts to come back - it has that tingling, numb, sensation that almost hurts. The only thing I could do was to be paralyzed with fear in that moment. My fingers started to move by themselves in a very robotic type of motion and it was completely out of my control.

I tried to scream out and nothing came out of my mouth(not even air), but I could breathe fine, so I tried a 2nd time to say something, and still nothing came out. The only thing you could hear was an eerie silence in the room. I told myself that this time I would really try as hard as I could to say something, so I just started screaming, and you could hear a very faint(far away) scream, and it got louder and louder like it was getting closer, and then suddenly I was back to normal.

I was horrified by watch just happened, and I quickly jumped out of bed to go find my boyfriend (who I thought was playing a joke on me). I searched the whole house and couldn't believe what had just happened - it was so surreal. When I realized I was home alone - I grabbed the closest pair of shoes I could find and ran out the door.

I refused to come home until my boyfriend got home that evening from work. This experience frightened me so bad that I ran to my Grandmother's house crying and told her what happened. I knew she would be the only one who would believe me. Well, I was right about that, and my boyfriend thought I was crazy until later when he had an experience with me. Needless to say - I moved out of that apartment and moved to another State.

This experience changed my beliefs in the super natural by a lot, and I don't limit the power of the spirit world anymore, and it's not something to be played with. I never thought something like this could happen to me, but it did. I believe that I was touched by a spirit and not just suffering from sleep paralysis.
