Ghost Stories

The Red Hallway

Personal Experience by Maran

When I moved to the small town of Oakley (a really REALLY old town), I thought that it couldn’t get any more boring. We had just moved to a nice three-bedroom pink house that was nice and big—but for some reason, really cheap. My parents were really excited about this house, because it was their first house and it seemed nice and quiet.

The first few weeks were pretty boring. I attended my new school and was trying to make friends. When I finally did make some new friends, I invited them over to my house to hang out, since I would be home alone for about two hours of the day (both parents worked). One day my friend and I were at my new house just talking and watching TV. She asked me where the bathroom was and I told her to just follow the red hallway that led straight to it. While she was making her way to the bathroom, I went into the kitchen to get some more soda. As I opened the fridge, I heard a crash, then my friend let out a horrific scream. I thought she had fallen or broken something, so I ran to see what was going on so I could help her. I was almost to the bathroom (there’s a sharp turn that leads you into the bathroom) when I crashed into her. I asked her if she was ok. All she said before grabbing her things and never coming back to my house was that she was turning the corner to get to the bathroom when she crashed into an old, pale, grumpy looking man. I said, "WHAT?!" But she just ran out the door. She kept me wondering for the rest of the day.

The next day at school, I looked for her to ask her if she was all right and to try to find out more about the old man she encountered, but that day she didn’t go to school. I thought maybe she had gotten sick or something, so I just went through that day as normally as I could.

When I got home after a long, hot school day, I got a drink from the fridge and went to the bathroom to take my makeup of. Turning the corner to get to the bathroom, I got so cold I literally almost peed my pants (you know that feeling you get when you get really cold and have to go pee). I really got extremely cold, even though it was about 80 degrees in my house, and then I suddenly got a chill. That creeped me out so much I just ran out of my house to the park in front of my house. I had my cell phone with me, so I called my mom. I told her what had happened—she said I was crazy and to not call her at work unless it was an emergency—so I fearfully went into my house.

I was so scared, I started praying. That calmed me down quite a bit, so I called my friend that had seen the old man. When she answered, I asked her if she was ok. She started describing all the terror she had felt that day she went to my house. We talked for over three hours, and once we finally hung up, I turned on my computer and started to research everything I could about my house. I Googled my house and the creepiest thing came up. I found out that a 65-year-old man by the name of “JHONE” had committed suicide in that hallway. He had hanged himself in that hallway because he couldn’t afford to pay for the house anymore and his wife had died about three weeks prior.

I was deeply disturbed by this. I saved this, and when my parents got home, I showed them what I had found online. My parents were so freaked out (my parents come from extremely superstitious families and believe it is bad luck to live in a house where someone has died unhappily) that three months after moving into the house, we packed our things and found a nice (and not haunted), apartment we could afford. You decide if the old man my friend saw that day was the old man who hanged himself … or something else…
