Ghost Stories

The Parachute Pants

Personal Experience by Arielle

A few years ago, my cousin, Amy, worked for her step-father, Jo-Jo, cleaning parking lots. With her first paycheck, she purchased a pair of parachute pants. Our great uncle Rodney went crazy for them and had to have some for himself. So, Amy went out and got him a pair. He looked completely ridiculous in them!

Amy is blessed with two very beautiful children: Carmen, who is three and Joshua, who is two months old. Sadly, a few hours prior to Carmen's birth, our great uncle Rodney passed away. My step-uncle, Jo-Jo, made sure to take care of Rodney's wife, Lilo.

Day and night, he was there for her. So, it absolutely tore him apart when Lilo passed away. The funeral was beautiful with a power-point dedicated to Lilo and an army of flowers surrounding her open casket. My cousin and I were talking about Rodney and how he and Lilo were so much in love, while Carmen was playing nearby. When she heard Rodney's name, Carmen came over and said, "Mommy, I know Rodney." Amy just rolled her eyes. "No, you don't, Carmen. He died before you were born." "I know, he's dead." she said. "Well... yeah," Amy said. "I know him," Carmen insisted. I could tell Amy thought she was just playing, and so did I. "Okay, Carmen. How do you know him?" "He comes to my room at night," she said. I could see Amy get a little frightened, but she laughed it off. "Yeah, right." "Mommy, he does! At first I was scared, but he told me not to be, so I'm not anymore." "Okay, Carmen, whatever." "Mommy, remember the pants?" Amy's face dropped. She knew she hadn't really talked about that in front of Carmen. She ran away from us and refused to talk to Carmen about it again.
