The Man in the Closet
(23 votes)
A Personal Experience By Karl

I don't remember many details about this spirit, but my parents have told me about my experience. We lived in Chicago and I was about 3 years old. It wasn't a very old house, but something probably built in the 60's or 70's. My room was right across the hall from the bathroom. I remember always having bad dreams about the "monster in the bathroom." I'm not sure if that is connected with this next experience, but it relates to the general bad feeling in the house.

At night, when I would go to bed, I would be visited by a spirit that came out of my closet. I'm not sure if he was good or evil, but at the time it didn't matter. All I knew is that it was a bit scary. It would happen like this:

My nightlight would turn off.

The closet door which was right next to my bed (and also led up to the attic) would open slowly.

A dark, tall shadowed figure would come out, and, with a deep voice, would say "Get out of my room!"

I would nod, get out of bed with my blanket, and go sleep under the dining room table. Every morning my parents would find me there, but they just shrugged it off as me being the kid I was. However, they got more worried as time went on and I was doing this. When they finally asked me why I was sleeping under the table, this is what I told them.

We moved shortly after this. The larger reason being that my mother also started to feel unwelcome in the house. There was no air conditioning in the house and it was the middle of summer, and a cold so cold you could see your breath descended onto her in bed and pinned her down. She says that she couldn't move or speak and felt as if she was being pressed into the bed. It didn't release her until my father walked into the room and mentioned the cold.

The house we moved to was a warm and welcoming home with activity all its own. But I'll tell you more about that next time.
