Ghost Stories

The Knocking

Personal Experience by Misty

My father, a Christian man, used to tell me the story about "The Knocking". When he was in his late teens to early twenties, a member of his church came forward and asked for his fellow neighbors to come to his home, because he was having a very bad problem with a cruel prankster. My dad agreed to visit along with the preacher and some other men. When they got there, it was up a nearby hollow, and there were lights strung around the house. They were asked to come inside. His daughter sat in the floor crying. All of the sudden, three big knocks struck the house so hard pictures came off the walls. It sounded as if the knocks were all around them. Quickly, they all ran outside and looked around the house. There was no one in sight. My father said there was no man that could have knocked that hard that fast with such a tremendous force. The preacher then asked what activities they had done prior to these sounds that plagued them. The little girl spoke up and said that while she and her friend were playing she had found an unmarked grave, and she cleaned it off and placed some wild flowers on it. The knocking continued for weeks. Finally, my dad, his preacher and other fellow members of the church got together and decided to go to the home and pray. Daddy said he prayed so hard that the sweat poured from his face and so did the others. While they prayed, the knocking got stronger and louder, but they kept on praying no matter what. Finally, after hours of prayer the knocking stopped.

Daddy said he could never understand or have an answer for what tormented that family, but it must have followed that little girl home from the train tracks. He said later on that the family moved, but the little girl was in and out of hospitals and that she had almost lost her mind. This happened back in the 1950's when there wasn't much that could be done for mental problems. But my dad has kept them in his thoughts and prayers.
