Ghost Stories

That COULDN'T Happen, Could it?

Personal Experience by Steve and Steph

In June of 1987, I had just gotten back from Basic and A.I.T. for the Army Reserve; an old friend, his girlfriend and I all began living in a downstairs apartment together. I was so proud that I had saved enough money to buy a new 1986 Dodge Power Ram, which I used to deliver pizza during the evenings.

I would also spend time with my sister Shy and her best friend, Deb. We would often go and visit Deb's boyfriend, Aaron, and his friends Troy and Paul.

On one of our visits, Aaron suggested that we play a little Ouija. We all found the game incredibly addictive and would play nearly every night from then on. On one such evening, the girl I was dating at the time, Shelly, decided she was now more intrigued than scared and decided she would like to play. We played late into the night and tried a few new things before we realized it was almost 2:00 a.m. and finally called it a night.

The next night, my sister called me to say, "Steve, Aaron said that we ended the game the wrong way last night, and since you and he are the two most powerful players in the group, the spirit of Ouija is still with you two."

"How is that possible?" I asked, then added, "it's just a game!"

"Well, that is what he told me happened," she replied. "He says we all need to come back over and take care of it A.S.A.P."

Of course, no one's evening schedules coordinated again for the next week -- so it would have to wait. By this time, Shelly had moved in with us and she was feeling a little concerned with this problem. I told her, "Don't worry, it's just a game!" and I headed to work.

The following night at work seemed uneventful, even boring. At about 7:50 p.m., I got to thinking about it as I was making deliveries. Out of curiosity, I asked, "Ouija, are you with me this evening?"

As if someone had turned off the switch, my lights went out. I reached down to check, but found the switch was still in the "ON" position. I pulled over to check the connections and bulbs, and suddenly they came on just as unexpectedly as they had gone out.

"That was weird, a new truck shouldn't do that!" I said to myself, frowning.

I made it through the rest of the shift without any further incident and went home. When I got home, Shelly asked if we had any problems at the store and I asked, "Like what?"

She replied, "Oh...like a blackout for just a few minutes."

And I told her, "No, no problems."

"Well, we had one here for just a few moments around 8:00, but the strange thing is that it was just THIS house that was dark!"

I didn't think anything of it then, and we all went to bed.

Two nights later as I was out on a delivery, this time around 9:10 p.m., I thought about it again. Again I asked, "Ouija, are you with me this evening?" And again the lights instantly went out. I tried to turn them off then on, and got nothing. I again pulled off the street and got out to check the connections and bulbs, and once again they came back on.

I got a cold shiver down my spine and thought, "There could be something to this!" When I got back to the store, I called Shelly out of curiosity and asked how her evening was going. She immediately informed me, "The house went dark again just for a few minutes."

I asked about what time and she said, "It was about 9:00 or so and it was just our place again."

"Ohhhh boy," I said, feeling a bit disturbed.

"What?"

I told her that I needed to talk to her when I got home.

"Okay, you're starting to scare me now!" she said.

Once I arrived home, she and our other roommates asked what was going on. I told them, "This is gonna sound strange, but -- remember when Aaron said that Ouija is still with him and me?"

"Yes." they replied.

"Well, I think that there may be some real truth to that," I said. "Remember a couple nights ago, when the lights went out for a few minutes -- and then tonight when they went out again? Well, right at that same time, the lights went out on my truck, too, and that was RIGHT after I asked Ouija if he was with me this evening. That's two times in a row that the same thing happened."

My roommate and his girlfriend immediately packed their bags and went to stay with her mother, telling me, "We will be at my mom's until you get this straightened out!"

"We need to get together with Aaron as soon as we can and get this taken care of," Shelly told me.

Finally, Saturday night arrived and we all met at Aaron's place to play again. At one point, we all had to focus on the wall behind Troy because we all SWORE we heard growling coming from that direction and Aaron felt like he was losing control of the medallion.

As Shelly began to panic, we all felt a wave of cold air brush across our bodies and grip us with fear. Aaron finally asked for Ouija to take control of the spirits present and keep them in check.

Immediately after, we shut the game down and none of us ever played again. My roommates were so scared of the possibility of being haunted that they never came back; and Shelly, she was so terrified by the experience that she left the next night while I was at work and I have never heard from her since.

I never had trouble with the truck lights again.
