Penelope's Fire
When my mom was a small girl, she used to see some kind of fire that changed from red to blue every night. But, when she woke up in the morning, nothing was burned. She finally got up the courage to tell her dad.
He used to say the fire represented the place where a person was buried, and underneath the body was money. Unfortunately, according to grandpa, the only person who could recover the money was the person who saw the flames. That person had to remove the body and the money at midnight. Then, after the money was taken away and the body was buried, a mass had to be held for the dead person. Also, according to my grandpa, only poor people could see the flames.
One night, my mom decided to test grandpa’s theory. She found the body and the money. She removed both, buried the body, but forgot to hold a mass for the dead person. It wasn’t long after that, someone started hunting and troubling my mom and her family. After a long discussion with her father, my mom remembered the mass.
After the mass, my mom and her family were never bothered again.
