Ghost Stories

My Own Haunted House

Personal Experience by Pam

I used to live in a big, three-story house in Alabama. The house was a beautiful plantation-style home in the middle of the forest. We knew from the beginning that the house was haunted, and we hadn't lived there for more than a week when we started hearing strange banging noises and hearing whispering all through the house. At times the electricity would flicker on and off and the phones would go dead. We had all of the repair people come and check out everything. They could never find anything wrong, so we would politely thank them and off they went.

There were many things that happened in the four years that we lived in that house, but this by far was one of the scariest.

I was the only one home that day, while my husband and son were at work. It was evening time and I decided that I would go upstairs and put my jammies on and wait for the guys to come home. My dog and I go upstairs, and we were only up there for about five minutes when my dog, Reese, started growling and was glued to my side. I was spooked by his reaction, so I threw my jammies on and we had started down the hall to the stairs when I felt this cold rush of air. I froze in fear for a second and then started my descent down the stairs, Reese right at my side.

When I reached the bottom and turned down the hallway into the breakfast room, I noticed that the windows that were in that room were wide open and the curtains were flapping in and out of the windows. My first thought was that someone had broken in while I was upstairs, but then I gathered my thoughts and realized that we were on the second floor. They would have to have a ladder to get up to the windows. I peered outside the window and saw nothing, so I shut both of the windows and started to go into the kitchen; that’s when I stopped dead in my tracks.

In the kitchen, I saw my stove was on—I did not even use the stove this particular day! Every single burner was on high and the oven was on broil. I was so scared I went over and turned everything off. Reese and I went and sat out on the porch until the guys came home from work. We were too scared to go back into that big old scary house alone, and though nothing else happened that night, spirits made their presence known in that house for years.
