Ghost Stories

My Dad, The Old Lady and the Bulldog

Personal Experience by Shannon

After mom & dad split-up, we moved to this house in Chicago. The house looked really nice at first, but after a while I knew there was something strange in this house. I wanted to move to a different house but mom disagreed. She insisted that she loved this house even though I hated it.

I was 7 years old when we moved, and my birthday was only a couple of days away. Yess!!! It was my birthday. I didn't have any friends around here yet since we had only been there for 2 days. However, I did have family members that were willing to come and visit me and bring my birthday gifts. So there I was playing in the front garden. Our garden was huge. There was me, my Mom, my cousin Jade, my 3 Aunties, my cousin Emma & my cousin dean. Jade was 6, Emma was 9, and Dean was 7. We were playing with my new ball. I loved it. It was my best present yet. Still no sign of my dad and no card or present either. Maybe he forgot it was my birthday. I just forgot about him for the time being and enjoyed my party. Jade, Emma, Dean, and I continued to play with my new ball. We were bouncing the ball to each other, and then I saw it.

I saw faces in the window. In my bedroom window. It looked like an old lady with a bun in her hair and a bulldog next to her. I blinked and looked again. Nothing there. I thought maybe it was my imagination playing tricks on me. When my party came to an end. My mom told me it was time to go to bed as it was late. I told her I saw something in the window. She ignored me and made it out as a joke. I was crying and begging her to let me sleep in her room that night. She said no. I still carried on crying. Mom walked away and I shouted at her as she turned out my light and closed my door. I was screaming and crying in the night. Several minutes later, Mom opened the door and shouted at me and told me to sleep. She slammed the door shut. I heard her lock my door. A shiver ran up my spine. I walked towards the door to find that I was right - she did lock the door. I decided to forget what I saw and try to get to sleep.

I silently lay in bed. Then, all of a sudden, I heard a dog barking and and old woman's voice telling it to shut up. I screamed to see those faces again but this time up on my ceiling. I screamed again and the faces came closer and closer. My mother came running in the room. She saw the faces as well and screamed. She headed towards me and cuddled me. The faces had now gone away.

The next day a man came to our door to tell us my father had died. The following nights I saw his face along with the woman and the dog up on the window and ceiling all in my bedroom. From that point forward, I never wanted to move as I knew I was safe and protected by my dad there. As they say, if they never hurt you when they were alive, they would never hurt you when they are dead.
