Ghost Stories

Haleigh's Cowboy

Personal Experience by Haleigh

I was riding my horse, Harley, in the woods at the very back of my property. My dad had inherited a huge ranch from his dad. The ranch had been in our family for generations. I was cantering downhill, dodging through trees and jumping over logs. Harley and I came to the edge of the woods into a huge, overgrown pasture which I didn’t even known existed. I thought this was the perfect place to practice galloping Harley for contesting. (contesting is a series of games, which you do certain patterns- but I won't get into that) Anyway- we were galloping through the pasture and were headed to the creek, when I heard another set of hooves coming up behind me. I turned my head around, thinking it was my brother. No one was there. I looked back in front of me. Harley and I skid to a halt. In front of me was a boy about my age.

He had blonde hair and blue eyes, and was very muscular. His quarter horse was one of the most beautiful gelding I had ever seen, black as night, one that could win some pretty big shows. "Hello!" he said with a smile. "uh.... Hi?." I said. "My name is Jacob, and yours?" "Haleigh" I said. We went for a ride along the creek. Jacob seemed to be a pretty interesting person, and I was starting to really like him, a lot. It was nearing sundown. One of our most important rules my dad had taught me was never ever ride or do anything with a horse when it is dark out. (They freak out, and you can't see as well, and Quarter Horse already being high strung...) I told him I had to go. Jacob looked sad. He dismounted as did I. It never occurred to me how weird it was for a stranger to be on my property. Neither did the ice-cold kiss he gave me on my cheek as he said good bye. The only thing I thought strange at the time was what he said, "I love you Haleigh. We were to be married 100 years ago. Your name was Rebbecca then. I'll always be with you." His horse and body erupted into soft shimmers. He was gone. I galloped home, stunned but calm and with some weird sort of happiness.

I never told anyone of this. I have seen Jacob after this though. He is always looking out for me. He always will.
