Ghost Stories

Elizabeth's Ghostly Grandpa

Personal Experience by Elizabeth

My sister and I have been interested in the paranormal since we were seven. (My sister is only 8 months older than me.) We used to watch TV shows about ghosts and other areas of the unknown with our grandparents. My grandpa would always say that he didn’t really believe in ghosts. But he would always joke that when he died, he’d come back to haunt us. We just laughed and went along with the joke.

My grandpa died March 25, 2005. I was 16 years old. It was hard for us, because my grandparents had helped raise us, so we were very close to both of them. During the first year after his death, not much happened. I would stay up late at night playing Solitaire on my computer. I would be absorbed in my game, when I would feel a light tap on my shoulder. When I turned around, nobody was there. I always kept my door shut, so I could hear if someone came in and tried to sneak up on me.

In 2006, when the anniversary of grandpa’s death rolled around, a few more strange things happened. I had been in my room watching a show about ghosts. My sister had been in her room on the computer. All of a sudden, my sister busts into my room freaking out about something. Once I got my heart to settle down, I asked her what was wrong. She explained to me that she had been messing around on her computer when the computer shut off, followed by the light shutting off and the radio turning on by itself. When I walked into her room, the radio was still on, and it was playing “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins. My grandpa knew that it was one of our favorite songs.

Later that night, my dad came home from work and headed for his bedroom. He came out a few minutes later and asked if anyone had been in his room. He always locked his door when he left the house, and the other only person with a key to his room was my grandma. My grandma had been out all day. He continued to explain that when he walked into his room, he found the laptop that used to belong to my grandpa on the floor. It had been on top of his dresser when he left for work, and it looked like it had been placed on the ground.

Ever since then, we’ve had minor experiences that could probably be explained as something else - like certain electronics that grandpa bought refusing to work. But the whole family likes to think that it’s grandpa playing tricks on us.
