Creatures In My Driveway

Creatures In My Driveway

I've always believed in ghosts and the supernatural. Always wanted to see a ghost and encounter something that'd make the hair on the back neck stand up. But, boy, do I regret ever saying that.

My morning started out normally, I got up, got breakfast, got ready for school. But, when I went down stairs, no one was home. Usually I'd hear my parents and dog walking around upstairs, but there was nothing. I didn't think much of it, since they both had worked relatively late the past few nights.

I got a Poptart and started down my driveway. It usually takes a good 3 minutes to walk down. The road is easily visible and there's a huge field in front of my house, but today, there was fog… lots of fog. I always listened to my IPod going down the pavement trail. I pulled it out and looked at the time and it said 6:58. Perfect, I thought. I’ll be on time today. As I put it back in my pocket, it stopped playing. I took it back out, thinking I’d accidentally hit pause. But it was still playing… I looked at the volume; it was still half turned up. “What the…” I thought and stopped for a moment to check the settings.

I took the ear buds out of my ears and fiddled with my IPod. Suddenly, I heard a car slam on its breaks and crash into what sounded like a tree. Cramming the device back in my pocket, I charged down to the end of the driveway looking left and right. I couldn’t see anything through the fog so I dropped my backpack and headed toward my neighbor Tom’s house. Still finding nothing, I turned around, passed my driveway and stopped at Rick and Robin’s House. Still nothing! What is going on, I thought. So I went back to my driveway and waited for the bus. It usually came at 7:05, but it showing up. I took out my Ipod one last time and it said it 7:15. I was getting anxious now, so picked up my backpack and started back toward my house.

I was halfway up the drive, when I heard a group of people approaching. They were talking and laughing, but I couldn’t make out anything they were saying. As they got closer, I noticed they were wearing torn clothing… with blood… and dirt covering them. I stepped back and looked at the tallest one who stopped about 6 feet away and looked up at me. I stared hard through the fog trying to figure out who it could be. But when I looked at his face.. he had no mouth… or nose…and… there were no eyes in his sockets!! They were black with blood streaming down like tears.

Shocked, I couldn’t move. My mouth opened, wanting to scream. As 3 more approached, I somehow found the courage and to turn and run toward my house. Not looking back, I thanked god that I had left the front door open, I leaped through, whipped around and locked it. I have two large windows on either sides of my front door, so anyone could look in and watch us. I ran upstairs to my parents bedroom and slammed the door shut. My dog started barking and my Dad sat up looking at me.

“Emi, what the heck are you doing?” He asked. “There’s people…. Out there.” Most of the fog had cleared up by then. He looked around and said, “Em, there’s nothing out there.”
