Ghost Stories

Chelly's Childhood Monsters

Personal Experience by Chelly

My family and I lived in an old farm house in Wisconsin. Two different things happened to me while living there. The first happened when I was three or younger. I had my own room up stairs next to one of my older brothers. It was time for bed. Now most kids that age do not want to go to bed. But I had fallen asleep on the sofa, so Mom carried me upstairs to put me to bed. I remember waking up in her arms screaming, “I don't want to go in there!” I woke my brother up. He asked what was going on. My room felt bad. Like it was going to eat me. I begged my Mom to let me sleep with one of my brothers or her, but not in there! My Mom Looked at me and said my room was fine, and she would look in the closet and under the bed for the monsters. First my Mom looked in the closet, nothing of course, then under the bed. While she was looking under the bed, I screamed, "It grabbed my sock!" I started crying so badly, my Mom could barely understand what I was saying. To get me to calm down, she looked at me and said, “I'm going to count to ten, and you are going to tell me what happened.” (Normally, Mom counting was a very bad thing, so that’s why it got me to calm down.)

Here’s what happened: a sock had been lying on the floor in front of my dresser. A wooden hand came out from under it, grabbed the sock and pulled it under the dresser. (The dresser is also made of wood and the hand was the same color as the dresser.) I was so scared, I peed in my pants! It was a white sock with red stripes around the top. Mom called me silly and went to look under the dresser. Now, remember, I'm three or less at this time. I was maybe 20 lbs. I tackled my Mom and screamed, “No don't look!” I thought she might get pulled under too! My Mom pulled the dresser out and she found the sock. She moved me out of the room, and to this day there is a cross and holy water in the bottom drawer of that dresser.

The next story is the same house but one room over. (There were 5 rooms in the upstairs of that house. My old bedroom was now a storage room.) Anyway, I was sound asleep, and at this time, I was about six and a half. Before we went to sleep at night, my Mom blessed our bedrooms; she would say "in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, I bless this room, so no evil may enter." And she would make the sign of the cross at my bedroom doorway. My brothers and I believed my Mom had that kind of power, and evil could not come into the room after she did that.

Like I said earlier, I was sound asleep, and I was awakened by something. My bedroom door was still wide open, so I could see into the hallway. The hallway was pitch black, and at this time, I did not have a night light. But there was something in the hallway, and it had glowing eyes. Not red but white. I sat up not afraid of this thing, because if it was in the hall, then my Mom's cross was keeping it out. So, I got out of bed and crawled up to the doorway, making sure not to touch where my Mom had blessed the doorway. (If you touched the cross, her spell was gone and you needed to sleep with your light on all night. Seems silly now, but, hey, I was a kid.) So I got a really good look at this thing outside of my door. It was blacker then black except for its eyes. Its eyes were still glowing white. It had pointed teeth and was sitting like a dog or cat. Its tail came up to a point, too. And it looked like it was laughing at me. But there was no sound. Now, I'm on all fours looking at this thing, and it's about my height. So I do what any child would do after seeing this thing up close. I turned on my bedroom light to see if it would go away. I turned my light back off, and sure enough, it was gone. But just to make sure it stayed gone I slept with my light on.

I told my Mom about the thing the next day. She took me to a priest to have me blessed. She said I had seen a demon, and only bad children see those, so off to church we went. We moved out of that house three years later.
