Ghost Stories

Are They Still Fighting The Revolution?

Personal Experience by Diane

This is something that happened to my daughter not long ago while staying over night at a friend's house.

Rita told me that when she sleeps over at her friends, almost every Friday night she is always woken up by something very sharp poking her. She feels a presence but never see's who it is. One night during dinner as Rita and her friends family were all eating she looked up at the doorway and saw to her astonishment, a line of revolutionary soldiers, British, walking single file past the dining room door and heading towards the stairs to the 2nd floor. As she put it.. "Mom, I almost choked on my food!?. She said they were all dressed in red uniforms and had long swords and muskets; the muskets were tucked into what looked like belts. She said they didn't pay her any attention and did not give her any indication they noticed her as she noticed them. She excused herself from the table on the pretense of getting a drink and as she got to the stairway she could see the last soldier disappear at the top of the stairs.

Her friend has mentioned waking up sometimes and seeing an old woman in her room, but since she never mentioned a battalion of soldiers Rita didn't mention what she saw. I did a bit of research to see if soldiers could have indeed been in this area. The house sits on the bank of a river and it is plausible that the soldiers used river travel and got off in that spot. I asked some older folks at work that I knew lived in Concord all their lives about the possibility of the British being up here in New Hampshire during the revolutionary times and they all said yes and that there were many skirmishes between the British and the revolutionaries in these parts.

Rita has slept over many times since but hasn't seen the soldiers again. As for the poking that wakes her up, we discussed the possibility of it being one of the soldiers, poking her with his sword to wake her up. She said what pokes her is sharp enough to be a sword tip.. but for now we just don't know. I hope to be able to do a walk thru of the house sometime soon and see what I can pick up there spirit wise. I'll keep you posted.
