Ghost Stories

A Night To Remember

Personal Experience by Jim

One Friday night after work, my girlfriend had ordered Chinese, so we sat down and watched a few movies. At about 11 PM we decided to call it a night; we then went upstairs and made passionate love. We had just recently moved into her deceased grandfather's house, which he left to her in his will. Curled up in bed at about 12:30 AM, there was a strong wind outside, tree branches tapping on the window a very cold night. My girlfriend awakened me, as she thought she heard a knock at the door. We sat and listened quietly for a few minutes, and right enough, the door went again. I was thinking to myself, who can be at the door at this time?

I went downstairs to investigate. Opening the front door, there was no one there, so I returned upstairs and said that no one was there. We then agreed it must just be the local kids playing a prank. I got back into bed, and about 3:00 AM we were awakened again by footsteps in the hallway. I crept to the bedroom door, peered out, but couldn't see anyone, so I cautiously checked the house from top to bottom searching every room—nothing strange, I thought to myself, but it is an old house and these houses make noises in the night.

Just as I was walking back up the stairs, I heard a frantic scream coming from the bedroom. Worried she was in danger, I rushed into the bedroom and there was my girlfriend curled up into a ball with the bed sheets wrapped around her, looking petrified. I asked her what was going on, and after about 10 minutes of calming her down, she replied that she felt like she was being choked, she couldn’t breathe, but there was no one there—no one. Later, we found out that the house had been the scene of a fierce murder about 50 years ago and has been haunted ever since. Two months later, we sold the house and moved to a nice country cottage, where we have had no issues with the other world.
